Blockchain.com says it has filed two applications with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission that could expand its American business into regulated crypto derivatives and prediction markets.
In an October 13 company announcement, Blockchain.com said it is seeking registration as a Futures Commission Merchant, or FCM, and designation as a Designated Contract Market, or DCM. If approved, the combination could allow the company to offer U.S. retail and institutional customers crypto futures, options and event contracts.
The distinction matters. A CFTC-designated contract market is an exchange operating under federal derivatives oversight, while an FCM is the intermediary that can accept customer orders and assets for futures-related trading. Blockchain.com has announced applications, not approvals, and has not provided a decision date.
Social coverage highlighted Blockchain.com’s push for CFTC-regulated prediction markets and derivatives in the United States.
Crypto Derivatives Keep Moving Onshore
The filing lands as regulated crypto products become more varied. BitcoinVersus recently covered the regulatory fight over Nasdaq Bitcoin options, the SEC’s approval of a 3x Bitcoin ETF listing, and the broader debate over U.S. crypto market structure.
Blockchain.com’s applications fit that same direction: crypto trading products are increasingly being pushed toward familiar exchange, brokerage and federal-registration structures rather than remaining limited to offshore platforms.
