Reuters reports that Apple chairman Tim Cook said Apple Intelligence has received approval in China, citing an exclusive interview with Chinese state-backed outlet The Paper. Cook said a test version is expected later in October.
The first rollout is expected to include core Apple Intelligence features such as Live Translation, Writing Tools and photo cleanup, while Siri AI is not expected in the initial test. That makes this an approval milestone rather than a full feature launch.
The change is notable because Apple’s September software release still said Siri AI and the newer Apple Intelligence features were unavailable in China while the company worked through regulatory requirements. Today’s report indicates that process has moved forward, although Apple has not yet published a China launch notice in its newsroom.
For Apple, China adds a major market to an AI rollout already reshaping the company’s hardware and software strategy.
