Germany Reportedly Plans Broad NVIDIA AI Partnership

Germany is reportedly preparing a broad artificial-intelligence cooperation agreement with NVIDIA aimed at accelerating AI adoption across German industry. Reuters reported on October 15, citing Handelsblatt and people familiar with the matter, that the agreement is expected to be announced next week at the Invest in Germany conference in Berlin, where NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang is expected to attend.

The reported plan has two main technical tracks. One is physical AI: software, models and computing systems for machines that operate in the real world, including robots and autonomous vehicles. The other is high-performance AI models intended for industrial use. Reuters said the cooperation would involve investment totaling several hundred million euros, but the German government had not publicly confirmed the agreement at the time of the report.

The model side of the plan is reportedly centered on SOOFI, short for Sovereign Open Source Foundation Models. Fraunhofer says SOOFI is a German and European effort to develop open foundation models for industrial applications. Its first model, Soofi S, was trained on Deutsche Telekom’s Industrial AI Cloud in Munich using as many as 512 NVIDIA B200 GPUs across 64 DGX B200 nodes for roughly 253,000 GPU-hours.

The physical-AI side fits NVIDIA’s broader effort to connect accelerated computing with robotics, machine vision and autonomous systems. GamesBeat highlighted NVIDIA’s open physical-AI data-factory blueprint earlier this year, a framework designed to help developers generate and process training data for real-world AI systems.

NVIDIA’s own 2026 GTC keynote also devoted a major section to physical AI and robotics, laying out how training infrastructure, simulation and edge compute are being combined for machines that must perceive, reason and act in real environments.

NVIDIA’s official GTC 2026 keynote moves into its physical-AI and robotics section at about 2:05:22.

The reported German agreement would connect several trends already visible across Europe. BitcoinVersus.Tech recently covered NVIDIA expanding AI tools and compute for European researchers, Schaeffler training humanoid robots in Germany, and Volvo and NVIDIA expanding their automated-driving partnership.

The important distinction is that this is still a reported plan rather than a formally announced agreement. If the Berlin announcement happens as described, the significance will be less about a single GPU order and more about combining sovereign model development, industrial compute and physical AI under one national industry program. Until Germany or NVIDIA publishes the final terms, the investment size, participating organizations and exact technical commitments should be treated as preliminary.
