U.S. Treasury Pushes “Super Intelligence” Name Globally

The U.S. Treasury is pushing international partners to adopt “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in place of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI,” extending a White House terminology change into global economic diplomacy.

Reuters reported on October 15 that Treasury Undersecretary for International Affairs Erin Browne said the United States is discussing the wording with International Monetary Fund shareholders and wants “SI” reflected in an upcoming International Monetary and Financial Committee statement. The U.S., which currently holds the G20 presidency, is also positioned to promote the terminology through that forum.

The distinction matters: Washington is not claiming that a separate technology called artificial superintelligence has suddenly replaced AI. Executive Order 14434 directs executive agencies to use the new terminology and separately orders officials to propose a federal definition of “Super Intelligence.” In other words, the current shift is primarily one of government language and policy framing.

This is a direct follow-up to BitcoinVersus.Tech’s earlier coverage of the White House SI executive order, the White House Super Intelligence Force, and U.S.-China AI safety diplomacy. Whether IMF or G20 members ultimately adopt the U.S. terminology remains unresolved.
