SpaceX has received two U.S. Space Force task orders worth a combined $1.6 billion, covering 18 Falcon 9 launches for the military’s Space Based Sensing and Targeting portfolio.
The missions will launch from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California and are expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
The satellites are intended to strengthen space-based sensing, airborne-target tracking and near-real-time communications across U.S. military forces.
The award demonstrates how SpaceX’s high launch cadence and reusable Falcon 9 system have become central to American national-security space operations.
Instead of funding one experimental rocket program, the contract purchases a series of operational launches under the Space Force’s National Security Space Launch Phase 3 Lane 1 framework.
Eighteen launches under one set of task orders also provide SpaceX with a substantial mission backlog while giving the military a standardized launch platform for deploying multiple satellite constellations.
Watcher.Guru described the award as bringing SpaceX’s total to $40 billion, but that broader figure should be treated carefully unless it is tied to a clearly defined category and accounting period.
It may combine contract ceilings, task orders, NASA agreements and other federal awards rather than money already paid to SpaceX.
