Credo has unveiled a 1.6 Tbps ZeroFlap Active Light Cable aimed at the space between short-reach copper and conventional pluggable optics in AI data centers.
In its October 12 announcement, Credo says the cable uses many lower-rate micro-emitters in parallel instead of pushing a small number of optical lanes to extreme speeds. The result is a targeted reach of up to 50 meters at 12 watts per cable end.
Credo also claims the cable is roughly 30% lower power and 10× lighter than comparable active electrical cables, while targeting 100 million hours MTBF. Those are company specifications and have not yet been independently validated at production scale.
The design fits a broader shift BitcoinVersus.Tech has tracked through 6.4T near-package optics, denser multi-core fiber and rising AI cabling complexity.
Credo says the 1.6T Active Light Cable is expected to ship in 2027. A separate recent Credo optics demonstration shows how the company is extending the same reliability and telemetry strategy into 1.6T optical links.
Editor’s Note: Reach, power, weight and reliability figures above are Credo targets or claims and may change before volume shipment.
