IonQ agreed on October 12 to acquire cybersecurity company Elisity in an all-stock transaction valued at up to $1.3 billion, expanding the quantum-computing company deeper into enterprise security.

According to IonQ’s announcement, the deal includes up to $150 million in performance-based earnouts. The companies expect the transaction to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approval and other closing conditions. The Wall Street Journal also reported the agreement.

IonQ CEO Niccolo de Masi discusses the company’s broader full-stack quantum strategy.

Elisity develops Zero Trust and identity-based microsegmentation software designed to limit which users, devices, workloads and AI agents can communicate across a network. IonQ says Elisity has more than 100 customer deployments; that figure is a company claim.

The acquisition would combine that network-security platform with IonQ’s post-quantum cryptography and quantum key distribution products. It does not mean quantum computers are currently breaking mainstream encryption; the strategy is aimed at current attacks and longer-term cryptographic migration.

Industry context: post-quantum security deadlines are already moving forward as organizations reassess cryptographic risk.

The move follows a broader shift BitcoinVersus has tracked through post-quantum migration planning, post-quantum security hardware, and the Bitcoin community’s quantum-security debate.
