Airoha Technology is pushing more AI directly into fiber-broadband hardware. Zero One reported on October 14, citing Chinese-language reporting, that Airoha has integrated a 3-TOPS AI accelerator into its flagship 25G PON chip for home broadband gateways.
Industry context: discussion of a competing 50G PON edge-AI platform shows that local AI inside broadband gateways is becoming a wider silicon trend.
The goal is not simply faster fiber. The onboard accelerator is designed to let the gateway analyze network conditions, identify faults and help perform repairs locally instead of sending every diagnostic task to the cloud. Zero One says customer products are expected from mid-2027, initially through North American equipment makers.
Bell Canada demonstrates 50G PON testing and the broader move toward faster passive optical networks.
Airoha’s own Network X 2026 material says MediaTek and Airoha are combining PON, Wi-Fi and 5G platforms while extending AI compute from data centers into homes and businesses. The company is also demonstrating 50G-PON gateways with AI-based diagnostics and self-healing.
The direction matches broader network changes we have tracked, including AI running inside home routers, Wi-Fi 8 and 5G-Advanced gateways, and 50G fiber access hardware.
The confirmed trend is clear: broadband gateways are becoming small edge-computing systems, not just packet-forwarding boxes.
