Eliyan has launched a new optical interconnect platform designed to move AI systems beyond the practical reach and power limits of copper. The company’s NuLight platform pairs two chiplets—Nexus and Oscar—to build modular links from 1.6 Tb/s OSFP configurations up to 12.8 Tb/s XPO.
According to Eliyan’s October 14 announcement, Nexus is a 3nm reverse-gearbox chiplet that converts 212G PAM4 electrical links into groups of 53G NRZ optical lanes. Oscar provides the electrical interface to microVCSEL and photodiode arrays. Eliyan says the architecture targets about 50 meters of optical reach and includes spare-lane repair that can reroute traffic if an optical lane degrades.
Converge Digest explains why VCSEL technology is moving toward terabit-class AI interconnects.
The approach spreads bandwidth across more optical lanes running at lower signaling rates rather than pushing every lane to the highest possible PAM4 speed. Eliyan argues that this “slow-and-wide” design can reduce signal-processing complexity and power while still scaling aggregate bandwidth.
The launch fits a broader move toward optical links inside AI systems. BitcoinVersus.Tech recently covered Voyant Photonics’ optical switching push, expanded SiGe capacity for high-speed interconnects, and 102.4T AI switching hardware. Eliyan says Nexus and Oscar are sampling now.
