Epic Games is pushing game development toward a much more AI-assisted workflow. CEO Tim Sweeney said the company has a “huge pivot” underway to retool developers for what he called maximum AI acceleration, with the goal of helping teams using Unreal build more and better software.
Epic CEO Tim Sweeney describes the company-wide AI-development pivot.
The more aggressive claim comes from reporting rather than Epic’s public announcement. Game Developer, citing Bloomberg, reports that an unannounced Disney collaboration has shifted to an “AI-first” production model and that developers were instructed to lean heavily on AI for code and art. Sweeney confirmed Epic’s broader AI strategy but did not confirm those project-specific instructions.
In this IGN interview, Sweeney discusses AI inside the Unreal Engine 6 development roadmap and how Epic expects development workflows to change.
The shift fits a wider trend we have been tracking. BitcoinVersus.Tech recently covered Epic’s free UEFN and Verse bootcamp, Genex putting AI agents directly into the game-development loop, and Google Playground with Unity Spark.
The coding question is no longer whether AI can help write game code. It is how much authority studios are willing to hand to generated code, how developers review it, and whether faster iteration actually produces better games. Epic is now one of the largest engine companies testing that question at production scale.
