Ripple and Meritz Securities are exploring how institutional crypto custody and tokenization could fit into South Korea’s capital markets.
Ripple formally announced the partnership on October 14, after Meritz disclosed the agreement in Korea on October 7. The companies plan to study Ripple Custody and Ripple’s tokenization infrastructure first within Meritz’s existing securities business and current regulations, then expand in stages if Korea’s digital-asset rules allow it.
Meritz is separately examining spot digital-asset ETFs, fractional investment products, security tokens, trading platforms and won-denominated stablecoins. None of those products has been announced for launch, and the partnership does not confirm that XRP, RLUSD or the XRP Ledger will be used. Seoul Economic Daily reported that the agreement was signed October 1 at Meritz’s headquarters in Yeouido.
CoinMarketCap highlighted the Meritz partnership when the Korean agreement first became public.
Custody Comes Before Tokenized Markets
The practical story is infrastructure. Institutions need controlled storage, transfers and settlement before they can build larger tokenized markets. BitcoinVersus recently covered Standard Chartered adding RLUSD custody, the SEC’s path for tokenized U.S. stocks, and Solana’s delivery-versus-payment settlement program.
Ripple says Meritz is its first Korean securities-firm partner and its fourth Korean institutional relationship this year, following work with Kyobo Life Insurance, Kbank and Jeonbuk Bank. For now, this remains an infrastructure partnership—not a live tokenized-securities launch.
Working Money Channel explains Ripple-owned Metaco’s institutional custody role through its Citi pilot, providing an independent look at the same custody infrastructure behind Ripple’s broader institutional strategy.
