Wiwynn, Ayar Labs and Global Unichip Corp. are showing a live co-packaged-optics system at the 2026 Open Compute Project Global Summit, moving the technology from architecture diagrams into a working compute platform.
In its October 13 announcement, Wiwynn said the system integrates a GUC ASIC with Ayar Labs’ TeraPHY optical engines and SuperNova external light source. The demo streams health telemetry from optical engines inside the multi-chip package while the tuning system tracks thermal and wavelength drift.
According to the companies, eye height, optical modulation amplitude and extinction ratio remain stable while the system compensates for temperature changes. The ORv3-ready design also includes detachable fiber-array units and in-chassis fiber routing, features aimed at making optical compute systems easier to manufacture and service.
Ayar Labs’ CPO platform places optical I/O directly beside compute silicon so large GPU clusters can move data without relying entirely on long high-speed copper links. BitcoinVersus.Tech has also covered Eliyan’s 12.8T optical chiplet platform, Salience Labs’ optical-switch expansion and 1.6T interconnect testing.
The OCP demonstration is not a production benchmark, but it is a meaningful integration milestone: the companies are showing that optical engines, light sources, telemetry, cooling and serviceability can operate together inside a real compute system.
