Framework has tripled its financial support for CachyOS, raising its contribution from $250 per month to $850 per month, or $10,200 per year. The CachyOS announcement says the additional money will support build servers, mirrors, infrastructure, kernel optimization, packaging and hardware support.
Framework originally supplied the project with a Framework Laptop 16 so developers could optimize the distribution’s kernel and packages on current hardware. Framework separately describes its Linux strategy as working upstream so support reaches the mainline kernel and distributions naturally. Phoronix reported the expanded funding as part of Framework’s broader Linux support.
The funding is modest compared with commercial software budgets, but recurring infrastructure money can remove real bottlenecks for community distributions. BitcoinVersus.Tech has also covered the Linux Foundation’s BUILD Foundation for Bazel, TI and Infineon backing Zephyr, and Defold vs Godot vs Unity as open-source software and hardware ecosystems continue gaining direct industry support.
