ORCA Computing launched PT-3 on October 15, 2026, putting its third-generation photonic quantum computer into service at Digital Realty’s Innovation Lab in London alongside conventional accelerated computing.
The system is notable because it is designed for an ordinary data-center environment rather than a specialized cryogenic facility. ORCA says PT-3 runs at room temperature, draws about 6 kW across two standard racks, and can be upgraded in the field. That puts it directly into the broader contest BitcoinVersus.Tech examined in The Quantum Computing Industry Still Has No Winning Architecture.
Data Center Dynamics reports that the first PT-3 was installed and operational within 24 hours at Digital Realty’s LHR19 facility. The publication also reports an approximate system weight of 800 kg.
ORCA explains how its rack-mounted, room-temperature photonic quantum systems integrate with classical computing infrastructure.
ORCA says a hybrid extension of NVIDIA’s Proteína protein-design model improved the ratio of useful proteins by 20% versus its classical baseline. On a 25,755-variable energy-scheduling benchmark, the company says PT-3 ran its hybrid workflow in about an hour, more than 12× faster than its predecessor at the same solution quality. Those are vendor-reported results, not a blanket proof that PT-3 outperforms classical computing across workloads.
The launch arrives as other photonic approaches move toward production, including Xanadu and GlobalFoundries’ quantum-photonic manufacturing work, while large-scale projects such as PsiQuantum’s planned U.S. quantum factory pursue a different route to useful machines.
