TDK Makes PositionSense Available Worldwide

TDK has made its InvenSense PositionSense platform available for worldwide distribution, giving robotics, drone, wearable and mobile-device developers a two-chip nine-axis sensing package for absolute heading and orientation. The company’s October 13 announcement says the system combines a six-axis SmartMotion IMU, a three-axis tunnel-magnetoresistance magnetometer and on-chip sensor-fusion software.

The hardware is designed to keep orientation data stable when satellite positioning is unavailable or unreliable, including indoor environments, tunnels and factory floors. That makes the technology relevant to humanoid navigation, drones, smart glasses and other physical-AI systems that need continuous motion and heading data. Independent coverage from IN Electronics & Design notes that TDK is shipping four defined hardware pairings built around its ICM-45608 or ICM-45689 IMUs and ICT-15312 or ICT-15318 magnetic sensors.

TDK previously demonstrated PositionSense as a low-power orientation platform for smartphones, wearables and robotics.

The release fits a broader shift toward richer sensing at the edge. BitcoinVersus.Tech has tracked that trend through RoboSense’s fast-growing robotics LiDAR sales, AMD’s physical-AI push at ROSCon and the practical calibration issues covered in robot vision calibration and troubleshooting. PositionSense adds another layer: compact orientation sensing that can run continuously without sending every motion calculation to a larger processor.

TDK says the four configurations support on-chip sensor fusion, gyro-assisted calibration and interfaces including I2C, SPI and I3C depending on the pairing. The result is a modular path for designers who need heading, acceleration and rotation data in battery-sensitive devices or high-dynamic robotic systems.

TDK demonstrates how PositionSense combines inertial and magnetic sensing for navigation applications.
