Top 7 Public Companies With the Largest Bitcoin Treasuries in 2026

An editorial illustration of seven secure high-tech vaults containing progressively larger Bitcoin coin stacks, symbolizing ranked corporate treasury holdings.

Who owns the most Bitcoin among publicly traded companies in 2026? New SEC filings and company disclosures have changed the order. Strategy remains an overwhelming No. 1, while Japanese treasury specialist Metaplanet has edged ahead of Twenty One Capital and Strive has narrowly overtaken MARA. This October 18 snapshot ranks reported company balance-sheet Bitcoin, not Bitcoin held for customers, governments or ETF shareholders.

Method: holdings are ranked by the most recent sufficiently documented number for each public issuer. Because reports span different dates, no one should mistake this for a synchronized blockchain census. Private-company estimates, including those attributed to Block.one and Tether, are excluded from this public-company ranking: many are not audited with comparable regularity. ETF custodians do not own funds’ Bitcoin on their own corporate balance sheets.

  • Key takeaway: Strategy reported 848,250 BTC—far more than the next six combined.
  • Close finish: Strive’s latest reported 35,595 BTC is just 18 BTC above MARA’s most recent quarterly figure of 35,577 BTC.
  • Reporting matters: MARA includes loaned and pledged coins; Galaxy’s gross digital asset figure includes Bitcoin borrowed from counterparties or held as collateral, so it is not treated as a clean owned-treasury balance.
  • Important exclusion: Bitcoin Standard Treasury Company’s proposed public deal was terminated in August 2026; a projected 30,021-BTC position therefore does not qualify as a completed public-company holding.

7. SpaceX — 18,712 BTC

SpaceX’s June 2026 10-Q reports 18,712 BTC with an aggregate cost basis of $661 million. The June 2026 IPO moved a previously private treasury into the public-reporting universe without creating a new Bitcoin purchase. SpaceX is an aerospace and communications company, not a dedicated Bitcoin investment business. Its share price therefore reflects far more than the value of its coins.

6. Bullish — Approximately 22,000 BTC

The institutionally focused digital-asset exchange Bullish is tracked at approximately 22,000 BTC in its June 30, 2026 corporate balance. BitcoinTreasuries’ company profile reports this figure; it is less immediately auditable from a simple company press release than the exact counts above and below, so the number is presented as an approximate tracker figure. Exchange customer deposits and trading volume must not be confused with coins owned by the issuer. Bullish’s business also spans institutional infrastructure and financial information services.

5. MARA Holdings — 35,577 BTC

The Bitcoin miner reported 35,577 BTC in its June 30 10-Q. That figure includes 4,742 BTC loaned to third parties and 4,528 BTC pledged as collateral; 26,307 BTC were unrestricted. MARA sold about 23,093 BTC in the first six months of 2026 to manage liquidity and pursue infrastructure growth, a shift we covered in our earlier MARA analysis. Any later unreported dispositions could change its spot ranking.

4. Strive — 35,595 BTC

Strive narrowly displaced MARA after two October disclosures. An October 13 Form 8-K reported 32,773 BTC as of October 9, and the following day’s Form 8-K disclosed another 2,822 BTC purchased. That implies a reported position of 35,595 BTC. The gap over MARA’s last quarterly number is just 18 BTC, so a new MARA filing could reverse these two ranks. Unlike a miner, Strive is explicitly trying to build its financial strategy around Bitcoin holdings and capital-market instruments.

3. Twenty One Capital — 43,514 BTC

Twenty One Capital, ticker XXI, reported 43,514 BTC as of June 30, 2026 in its SEC Form 10-Q. The company is backed by major Bitcoin-industry investors and has emphasized Bitcoin-native financial products. Leadership changed during the summer: Raphael Zagury became CEO after founder Jack Mallers stepped down, as Tether announced in July. The filmed interview below with Zagury explains that transition; it does not supersede the audited balance date.

2. Metaplanet — 44,000 BTC

Japanese public company Metaplanet reported 44,000 BTC after its September 30 purchase of 1,000 coins, according to its official Bitcoin Strategy Tracker. That barely outranks XXI by 486 BTC at the latest disclosed figures. Metaplanet emphasizes Bitcoin per share and financing structures to accumulate coins, but the economics also depend on issuance, borrowing costs and the company’s share valuation.

1. Strategy — 848,250 BTC

Strategy’s October 12 SEC-distributed press release disclosed 848,250 BTC as of October 11, 2026, following a 250-BTC purchase. Its official ledger details the accumulation history and reported cost basis. This is about 4.04% of Bitcoin’s 21-million-coin issuance cap—a vast concentration in a single company’s treasury. The trade-off is exposure to debt, preferred securities, potential dilution and the premium or discount at which Strategy shares trade relative to the value of the coins.

Why Other Lists Can Disagree

The word holdings can conceal different accounting treatments. MARA includes Bitcoin loaned or pledged as collateral, while Galaxy Digital’s June filing shows 21,084 BTC in gross digital assets that may include amounts borrowed from counterparties or controlled collateral, so that figure is not presented as a straightforward company-owned reserve. Proposed transactions are another source of errors: SEC documents confirm BSTR’s combination agreement was terminated, despite some third-party trackers continuing to display its planned 30,021-BTC public company position. See our report on public Bitcoin miners’ hashrate share for the separate distinction between mining output and treasury ownership.

Bottom line: large holdings alone do not indicate greater profitability, financial safety or Bitcoin mining efficiency. A mining business earns and may sell coins; a treasury business may finance purchases through new securities; an exchange has customer-related balances that require careful segregation; and SpaceX is primarily an industrial operator. Bitcoin per diluted share, liquidity, custody and restrictions matter alongside the headline BTC count. The ranking is based on information available October 18, 2026 and may change when new filings appear.
