Discord announced on October 27, 2026, that some messages from public channels in Discoverable Servers will become searchable on Google and other search engines starting in mid-December. Under its new Server Web Pages initiative, users and administrators can control what appears, but eligibility is enabled by default for adults in most regions.
What changes, and when?
Starting November 16, Discoverable Servers will have public web pages that may show automated channel summaries. Individual messages follow in a gradual mid-December 2026 rollout. Only eligible public channels in Discoverable Servers are affected; private servers, private channels, direct messages and group DMs are excluded. Messages written before the mid-December rollout are excluded too. Usernames and avatars will not accompany published messages.

How to opt out
On desktop or in a browser, open User Settings → Data & Privacy and turn off “Show my message content from Discoverable channels on web pages.” Discord says the switch applies across every Discoverable Server, including accounts accessed through mobile. The official member guide includes detailed instructions.

The setting is off by default in the EU/EEA, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia and South Korea. Teen accounts cannot enable it. Elsewhere, eligible adult accounts are generally opted in unless users change the setting.
What happens to older messages?
Switching off prevents future eligible messages from appearing, but does not remove messages sent while the switch was on. Users must delete individual messages to remove them from Discord’s web pages. Search-engine caches may persist longer. Administrators can disable participating channels separately through Server Settings → Community → Web Presence. Discord says channel summaries and individual messages have independent controls.
The change promises easier discovery of gaming tips and technical answers, while introducing a new privacy decision. For broader context, see BitcoinVersus.Tech’s guides to passkeys and account security, VPN privacy basics, and privacy choices in AI assistants.
