Acer’s Predator Atlas 8 gaming handheld is headed for its first official U.S. retail launch on November 1 at $1,299.99, according to an October 27 report and Best Buy’s listing. The Windows 11 device will be sold exclusively through Best Buy, bringing Intel’s new Arc G3 Extreme graphics platform into the premium portable-gaming market.

The price resolves a key question left open when Acer introduced the Atlas 8 at Computex in May. Acer told reporters that the first U.S. preorder allocation sold out and that more online orders would open on launch day. The early sellout signals initial interest, but it does not establish demand beyond the limited preorder inventory.

The Hardware Behind the Price

The U.S. configuration combines Intel Arc G3 Extreme processing and Arc B390 graphics with 24 GB of LPDDR5x memory and a 512 GB solid-state drive. Acer lists an eight-inch, 1920-by-1200 touchscreen, a 120 Hz variable refresh rate and up to an 80 Wh battery. Those specifications make this a full Windows gaming computer rather than a standalone console tied to one digital storefront.

Dual Thunderbolt 4 ports allow external displays and accessories, while Wi-Fi 7 and a UHS-II microSD reader support wireless connectivity and storage expansion. Adjustable triggers can switch between fast-click control and analog input, while Acer’s two-fan cooling system is intended to maintain performance in the compact chassis.

Acer also integrates PredatorSense for performance profiles, fan settings and controller customization. Intel’s XeSS upscaling can improve frame rates in supported games, although battery life, noise and performance will depend on the title, power setting and graphics configuration. A Premium Price for Portable PC Gaming

At nearly $1,300, the Atlas 8 must compete not only with other premium handheld PCs but also with gaming laptops and desktop graphics upgrades. The November 1 launch will reveal whether Acer can translate initial preorder interest into broader sales. For buyers, the critical questions are sustained game performance, ergonomics and real-world time away from a charger—not just the processor and display figures on the specification sheet.
