BMW Group said on November 4, 2026, that fully electric vehicles accounted for 20% of its third-quarter deliveries even as total vehicle sales fell and the company cut its full-year automotive profit outlook. The Munich automaker reported €2.083 billion in quarterly profit before tax, down 10.6% from a year earlier, and announced faster restructuring alongside an accelerated shift to sixth-generation electric-vehicle technology.
According to BMW’s quarterly announcement, worldwide deliveries reached 551,075 vehicles, a decline of 6.3%. Battery-electric models accounted for more than 110,000 deliveries, up 7.2%, while plug-in hybrids lifted the combined electrified share to 27.4%. The figures describe vehicles delivered, not orders placed or vehicles produced.

Profit guidance changes despite growing EV share
BMW’s Automotive division posted a 3.4% operating margin in the quarter. The company now forecasts a reported full-year margin between minus 0.5% and plus 0.5%, down from its previous 1% to 3% range. Management attributed the adjustment to fourth-quarter portfolio and structural measures, including an earlier phase-out of selected vehicles using fifth-generation battery technology.
The distinction between operating performance and restructuring charges matters. BMW says its 2026 automotive operating margin before portfolio and structural measures should remain above 2%, while full-year automotive free cash flow is still expected to exceed €2.5 billion. Neither figure guarantees the final reported result.
Revenue declined 5.8% to €30.452 billion. European and United States deliveries rose 2.6% and 2.5% respectively, but sales in China fell by roughly one-quarter. BMW faces price competition, uneven demand and costs associated with introducing a new electric architecture across several factories.
Gen6 batteries reshape the production plan
The Neue Klasse program introduces BMW’s sixth-generation electric drivetrain and high-voltage battery systems. Management says stronger demand for the new models has enabled additional production shifts and an earlier retirement of selected Gen5 products. The transition may improve future manufacturing efficiency, but bringing forward the change also creates near-term accounting and restructuring costs.

BMW’s chief executive statement describes expansion of Gen6 production at Debrecen, Munich, Dingolfing, Spartanburg and Shenyang. The company also plans to accelerate organizational simplification. Its finance presentation reported third-quarter automotive free cash flow of minus €566 million, emphasizing the difference between a quarterly cash outflow and the company’s positive full-year forecast.
What investors and EV buyers should watch
The results arrive amid intense competition in electric vehicles. BitcoinVersus.Tech previously compared long-range electric cars, examined Chinese automakers’ expansion in Europe, and covered factory automation and employment. BMW’s earnings highlight how faster EV adoption can coincide with reduced near-term profitability.
Key next milestones include fourth-quarter restructuring expenses, Gen6 production volumes, the launch of new Neue Klasse models in China, and whether margins recover toward BMW’s longer-term targets. Management forecasts 3% to 5% automotive operating margins in 2028, but the outcome remains uncertain and depends on demand, tariffs and execution.
