Microsoft released Visual Studio Code 1.145 on November 4, 2026, with remote application previews, mixed AI-agent sessions and new cron schedules for local automations. The official release notes describe ways for developers to inspect running software and review agent changes without leaving the editor. Some capabilities remain preview or experimental, so the announcement does not mean every feature is ready for regulated production workflows.
The release extends the shift toward persistent coding agents. BitcoinVersus.Tech previously covered VS Code 1.144’s cross-environment session continuity. Version 1.145 builds on earlier session handling by bringing remotely running app previews and distinct agent harnesses into shared workflows.
Remote previews now work inside the Agents window
A preview setting, workbench.browser.enableRemoteProxy, enables the editor browser to access a web application launched on a remote agent host. Instead of manually copying local-development URLs between machines, programmers can inspect the remotely running application from VS Code. Remote canvases additionally require the chat.canvases.enabled setting. Secure host connectivity and correctly scoped permissions remain requirements, not optional operational details.

Nested sessions can now run different agent harnesses when chat.agentHost.multipleChatProviders.enabled is enabled. One coding agent may prepare a plan and another assess it without replacing the parent conversation. Harness-specific permissions, models and history remain separate. Earlier coverage of Copilot Projects coordinating work across repositories provides broader context for the growing need to manage multiple AI coding tasks.
Local agent jobs gain cron scheduling
VS Code 1.145 adds five-field cron scheduling to local agent automations, plus support for custom workspace agents and a collapsed section for disabled tasks. For example, 0 9 * * 1-5 represents a weekday 9 a.m. local run. Microsoft says cron expressions are validated and summarized before saving. Cron schedules are not supported for cloud automations. A local job also depends on the availability of its execution host and configuration.

Agent automation increases the importance of review. A task may rerun against changed source files, use unnecessary privileges or consume additional compute. Version-controlled task instructions, least-privilege credentials and rollback procedures reduce the risk. Related change-control practices for remote operations apply when generated edits or scheduled jobs affect production systems.
Improvements for review and developer focus
The updated Copilot harness working set tracks edits across WSL, Dev Containers and SSH workspaces. Experimental chat-display controls can condense visible tool traces without changing the underlying session. New file-selection behavior can hide irrelevant folders while still granting access to needed documents. A small platform-jumping game starring the editor mascot Blobby is also included, separate from the engineering changes.
For security-minded teams, a review surface cannot substitute for automated scanning and tests. The site’s recent CodeQL static-analysis coverage describes another layer for detecting defects before release. VS Code 1.145 adds coordination features, not a guarantee that generated code is correct or safe.
The release is available through Microsoft’s standard Windows, macOS and Linux distribution channels. Teams should check version requirements, enable preview flags selectively and test extension compatibility before organization-wide adoption. Independent measurements of developer productivity or bug rates were not part of the release announcement.

Editor’s Note. The new features and dates are attributed to Microsoft’s November 4, 2026 VS Code 1.145 release notes. Remote preview, mixed harness and related capabilities retain preview or experimental restrictions; cron scheduling applies to local automations, not cloud jobs.
