Qualcomm has introduced two new flagship smartphone processors, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, putting a 5 GHz Oryon CPU and expanded on-device AI at the center of its next Android hardware generation.
The chips were unveiled at Snapdragon Summit 2026. Qualcomm says both are manufactured on a 2 nm process and combine its custom Oryon CPU, Adreno graphics and Hexagon neural-processing hardware for premium smartphones.
A 5 GHz mobile CPU
Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Oryon CPU includes two prime cores running at up to 5 GHz. The company reports a 10% CPU performance improvement and 37% better CPU power efficiency compared with the previous generation.
The reworked Adreno GPU is rated by Qualcomm for a 35% performance increase and a 40% efficiency improvement. Its Hexagon NPU is also designed to increase AI performance while supporting more personalized processing directly on the device.
AI moves deeper into the graphics pipeline
The higher-end Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 introduces Adreno Neural Fusion, which combines neural processing, AI super resolution and frame generation inside the mobile graphics pipeline. Qualcomm is positioning the technology for higher-quality gaming graphics without requiring every pixel to be rendered conventionally.
Flagship Android phones are next
Qualcomm says devices using the new platforms are planned from manufacturers including Honor, iQOO, Motorola, OnePlus, Oppo, Redmi, RedMagic, vivo and Xiaomi. The launch extends the industry’s push toward running larger AI workloads locally instead of sending every request to a remote data center.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 also integrates Qualcomm’s X105 5G modem-RF system and FastConnect 8800 connectivity platform, with support for Wi-Fi 8 and Wi-Fi 7.
