ASML Says AI Demand Is Outrunning Supply

A cinematic semiconductor fabrication scene linking AI data center demand to advanced lithography and wafer production.

ASML says demand tied to the artificial-intelligence buildout is now running ahead of the chip-tool capacity it currently plans to have available in 2027 and 2028.

On October 14, 2026, ASML reported record third-quarter net sales of €11.7 billion, a 57.5% gross margin and 113 new lithography systems sold. The company also raised the low end of its full-year sales outlook to €44 billion–€45 billion.

CEO Christophe Fouquet said customers are increasing short- and medium-term equipment forecasts primarily because of their expectations for AI-related investment. Some customers are already expressing interest in orders for 2029 and 2030. ASML now says its currently planned supply for both 2027 and 2028 will not fully meet customer demand, and it is studying ways to expand 2028 capacity beyond the previously announced 30% increase.

A same-day Reddit discussion reacts to ASML’s 2029–2030 order-interest comments; the discussion is user-generated and is not used as primary evidence.

Reuters reported that the visibility helped ease investor concern that the AI spending boom may be approaching a peak. That is not proof that the cycle will remain strong: customer interest is not the same as a signed order, and future capacity plans can change.

The demand signal arrives as ASML pushes High-NA EUV toward production, works with customers on larger photomasks for High-NA, and maps a path toward Hyper-NA EUV.

Xiver says the new tool enables double-sided wafer patterning and sub-micron 3D micromachining, capabilities relevant to photonic devices, MEMS and other specialty processes that do not require leading-edge logic nodes. That distinction is useful alongside BitcoinVersus.Tech’s Top 7 Semiconductor Manufacturing Machines and our coverage of ASML’s current AI-driven demand. […]
