Datacentrex says it has begun energizing more than 500 ElphaPex DG2 Scrypt ASIC miners across its U.S. colocation operations. Some of the previously purchased machines are already running, while the remaining units are expected to come online over the next several weeks.
In its October 14 announcement, the company projected a 21% increase in online Scrypt hashrate, from 43.2 TH/s to 52.2 TH/s, once installation is complete. Power capacity is expected to rise from 12.5 MW to approximately 14 MW. The company disclosed the development in an SEC Form 8-K filed the same day.
Datacentrex reports operating more than 3,500 Scrypt miners at four U.S. colocation sites. It says the new DG2 units were prepaid, so energizing them does not require another hardware purchase. That does not eliminate ongoing electricity, hosting, maintenance or cooling expenses.
Unlike Bitcoin’s SHA-256 miners, these machines use the Scrypt algorithm associated with Litecoin and Dogecoin. They can participate in merged mining, but profitability still depends on network difficulty, coin prices, electricity rates and uptime. The site previously covered new Scrypt mining chips and Bitcoin-versus-Litecoin power efficiency.
The key distinction is timing: Datacentrex says initial miners are producing now, but 52.2 TH/s is a target, not a completed result. Future operating reports will show whether the fleet reaches that level and how efficiently the added hardware performs.
