Himax Powers Always-On Vision in Qwen Glasses

Himax’s WiseEye AI processor is now powering always-on vision in Alibaba’s latest Qwen Glasses N1 series. Himax said October 14 that its HX6538 chip lets the glasses continuously sense their surroundings while keeping the main host processor asleep until it is actually needed.

According to Himax’s announcement, the system combines on-device AI recognition with tiered visual wake-up. That matters for lightweight glasses because constant camera and AI processing can drain a small battery quickly. Moving basic perception onto the low-power WiseEye chip lets the glasses stay aware without running the full application processor all the time.

EE Times demonstrates Himax WiseEye as an always-on endpoint-AI engine for smart glasses and other low-power devices.

An independent Unite.AI report describes the same architecture as a way to give smart glasses more persistent context without forcing cloud processing or full-system wake-ups for every visual event.

The direction fits a broader shift toward local AI in smart glasses, AI agents in wearable displays, and low-power edge AI on battery-powered hardware. The key change is architectural: small always-on processors handle continuous sensing, while larger chips wake only for heavier work.
