Arthur Hayes Says AI Agents Could Power the Most Valuable Network

Arthur Hayes says the payment network ultimately chosen by AI agents could become “the most valuable network ever created.” In a CoinMarketCap post summarizing his comments, the BitMEX co-founder described a future with trillions of agents transacting with one another at machine speed.

CoinMarketCap highlighted Hayes’s argument that AI agents could create a massive machine-to-machine transaction network.

Hayes expanded the idea in a 1000x interview with Avi Felman. He argued that the agentic economy is real but still lacks a dominant native currency. His Flop Network proposal attempts to connect money directly to compute: GPU operators would run inference, validators would verify work, and agents would spend the network token to buy computing resources.

The thesis remains highly speculative. BeInCrypto reports that the FLOP testnet is expected within weeks, but the project still has to prove real agent demand, reliable verification and sustained network effects. Nothing yet shows that FLOP—or any other chain—will become the dominant settlement layer for autonomous agents.

Arthur Hayes explains the FLOP concept and his broader AI-agent thesis in the 1000x interview.

The idea overlaps with several trends BitcoinVersus.Tech is already tracking: AI wallets moving onto the XRP Ledger, AI agents entering semiconductor fabs, and factory robots gaining new AI skills.
