Bitdeer’s SEAL04 chip really did demonstrate approximately 6–7 joules per terahash (J/TH), according to the company’s formal investor disclosures. But the much-discussed result belongs to a chip-only laboratory test, not a complete Bitcoin mining machine operating at the wall.
On November 10, 2025, Bitdeer said early SEAL04 samples reached 6–7 J/TH in low-voltage, ultra-power-saving mode. It later identified two development paths, SEAL04-1 and SEAL04-2. The first improved on its SEAL03 chip’s approximately 9.7 J/TH laboratory result; development of the second design continued. The initial 2025 ambition of roughly 5 J/TH was not the reported SEAL04-1 test result.
From SEAL04 Silicon To A4 Machines
What happened after testing? On April 7, 2026, Bitdeer launched the SEALMINER A4 family using SEAL04 chips. Its flagship A4 Ultra Hydro is manufacturer-rated at 886 TH/s, 8,372.7 W and 9.45 J/TH. The A4 Pro Hydro and A4 Pro Air are both rated at 10.9 J/TH. Bitdeer’s published launch tolerances allow efficiency to vary by ±5%.
- 6–7 J/TH: SEAL04 chip samples, low-voltage laboratory mode.
- 9.45 J/TH: A4 Ultra Hydro, complete machine nameplate rating.
- 10.9 J/TH: A4 Pro Hydro and A4 Pro Air machine ratings.
The approximately 6.5 J/TH midpoint is useful when plotting the chip result, but it is not a separately certified product specification. Differences between chip and miner numbers reflect both operating conditions and system-level power demands, including power conversion, controls and board losses. The 2.95 J/TH gap should not be labeled entirely as overhead without matched chip operating data.
What This Means For 1 J/TH
The result strengthens evidence of ongoing ASIC power-efficiency progress, but it does not establish that 1 J/TH is imminent. Comparing Bitdeer’s lab chips directly with a ranking of complete miners would overstate their advantage. The next decisive evidence would be reproducible chip measurements at disclosed voltage, frequency and hashrate, followed by independently observed whole-machine power consumption.
Verdict: The 6–7 J/TH claim is supported by Bitdeer’s filings. The market-ready reference point is its 9.45 J/TH A4 Ultra Hydro. Both values matter, provided they remain correctly labeled.
