PONTIAC, Michigan — Industrial automation manufacturer FANUC America plans to invest $90 million in an 840,000-square-foot facility designed to expand its U.S. engineering, manufacturing and logistics capacity. The project, first announced March 24, 2026, received state economic-development support on July 28.
Michigan Approves Factory Expansion
The Michigan Strategic Fund approved a $1.575 million performance-based grant for the Pontiac expansion. The investment is expected to create at least 225 positions, ranging from entry-level manufacturing roles to advanced engineering careers. FANUC projects completion in late 2027.
The site is planned for manufacturing, research and development, logistics, and other industrial operations. FANUC says it will provide production-ready capacity for potential additional U.S. robot manufacturing; it has not announced that all proposed production lines are already operating.
Robotics and Physical AI
FANUC identifies growing demand for industrial automation, physical AI, virtual commissioning and digital-twin technologies as reasons for expanding. Its U.S. manufacturing history includes industrial paint robots. The company says its cumulative investments in new American facilities since 2019 approach $300 million.

A Separate Training Investment
On October 19, FANUC also announced the opening of an $18 million training academy in Auburn Hills. The 132,000-square-foot center has 28 classrooms, and FANUC says its broader training network can accommodate approximately 17,500 participants annually. This operating academy is separate from the planned $90 million Pontiac factory.
Together, the projects illustrate two complementary requirements for industrial automation: physical production capacity and a workforce able to program, operate and maintain increasingly capable robotic systems.
