IonQ Connects Superion 256 Quantum Computer to NVIDIA AI Supercomputer

IonQ plans to install its Superion 256 quantum computer at NVIDIA’s Accelerated Quantum Research Center, connecting a 256-qubit processor directly to NVIDIA AI supercomputing infrastructure.

The Superion 256 is scheduled to become the center’s first on-premise quantum processor in 2027. IonQ says the system will connect directly to an NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 through NVQLink, while the CUDA-Q platform will orchestrate hybrid quantum and classical workloads.

The research program will explore hybrid software and large-scale system prototyping, including potential work in materials science, computational chemistry, portfolio optimization and financial risk modeling.

The hardware is particularly notable for data-center operators. IonQ says Superion uses semiconductor-fabricated electronic qubit controls and is designed for a standard server-rack footprint rather than a bespoke facility buildout. First customer deliveries are also expected in 2027.

The deployment adds quantum hardware to the same accelerating infrastructure landscape covered in BitcoinVersus.tech’s recent look at AI data-center power expansion, where computing architectures increasingly depend on tightly integrated chips, networking, cooling and electrical systems.
