Bitcoin mining hardware is entering another efficiency step as BITMAIN moves its ANTMINER S23 XP Hyd. toward November shipments, pairing 600 TH/s of SHA-256 hashrate with a manufacturer-rated 8.9 joules per terahash.
The machine is a useful snapshot of where Bitcoin mining infrastructure is heading: higher rack density, hydro cooling and tighter attention to the cost of every watt delivered to the ASIC.
BITMAIN pushes below 9 J/TH
BITMAIN currently lists the S23 XP Hyd. as a futures product at 600 TH/s, 5,340 watts and 8.9 J/TH, with a listed price of $25.50 per terahash, or about $15,300 for the 600 TH/s configuration. The manufacturer says shipments are expected to begin in November 2026.
Efficiency matters more as mining economics tighten
At the wall, 8.9 J/TH means the S23 XP Hyd. uses about 8.9 joules to produce one terahash of computing work each second. That is an improvement from the 9.5 J/TH rating of the earlier S23 Hyd., which BITMAIN lists at 580 TH/s and 5,510 watts.
The change is not just a specification-sheet race. For large data centers, small efficiency gains compound across thousands of machines and directly affect electricity demand, cooling requirements and the amount of hashrate that can fit behind a fixed megawatt limit.
Hydro cooling is becoming part of the mining architecture
BITMAIN has increasingly tied its newest ASIC generation to hydro-cooled infrastructure. That approach shifts facility design away from simply moving enormous volumes of air and toward engineered water loops, pumps, heat exchangers and higher-density power distribution.
The S23 XP Hyd. remains a futures product, so its 600 TH/s, 5,340 W and 8.9 J/TH figures are manufacturer ratings rather than BitcoinVersus.tech measurements from a shipping production unit. Real-world results can vary with inlet temperature, power quality, firmware and facility conditions.
BitcoinVersus.tech recently examined the broader efficiency curve in Is Bitcoin Mining Efficiency Starting to Slow Down?, which places the 8.9 J/TH specification into the longer history of ASIC efficiency improvements.
