Agility Launches Digit 5 Humanoid Robot

Agility Robotics has unveiled Digit 5, a redesigned industrial humanoid intended to work closer to people while handling a wider range of manufacturing and warehouse jobs.

The fifth-generation Digit can repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds, about 40% more payload than Digit 4, according to Agility. A redesigned battery provides a stated 90-minute runtime and nine-minute charge time, producing a 10:1 run-to-charge ratio. The robot stands 5 feet 11 inches, weighs 284 pounds and can reach as high as 7.2 feet.

The most consequential change is safety architecture. Agility says Digit 5 combines multiple sensors and human-detection software with an independent safety controller. When a person enters an unsafe area, the system is designed to avoid the person, stop or move into a seated position. The platform also uses NVIDIA IGX Thor and NVIDIA’s Halos robotics safety framework.

Digit 5 also adds swappable end effectors using ISO-standard mounting flanges. Agility says that will let one robot move between tote handling, machine tending, kitting, sequencing, inspection and palletizing rather than being permanently configured for one task.

Agility reports that earlier Digit systems have accumulated more than 65,000 hours of operation across customer sites including GXO, Schaeffler, Amazon and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada. The company says it had more than $300 million in multi-year Digit 5 orders as of May, subject to contractual milestones. Those orders should not be confused with robots already delivered.

There are still important limitations. Digit 5 is pre-production hardware, some safety features remain in development, and Agility labels its specifications as preliminary internal estimates. Early access is expected in the first half of 2027, with broader availability targeted by the end of 2027. Independent production-scale reliability and performance data therefore remain to be established.
