Tyrese Maxey is entering his prime as Philadelphia’s high-speed scoring guard. Stephen Curry is still producing elite offense for Golden State. Their early 2026–27 comparison shows two different paths to guard dominance: Maxey’s playmaking workload against Curry’s extraordinary shooting volume.
The numerical analysis compares identical categories across 10 Maxey games and eight Curry games through November 7, 2026. Every average divides a player’s accumulated regular-season total by his own appearances, excluding missed games. The 76ers’ official Maxey profile and NBA’s Warriors–Magic record anchor the comparison; individual game logs were independently cross-checked.
Scoring — Curry 31.3, Maxey 26.9 points per game
Curry’s 250 points in eight games equal 31.25 per appearance, conventionally displayed as 31.3. Maxey has 269 in ten, or 26.9. Using unrounded totals, Curry’s per-game advantage is 16.2%. His 44-point night against Minnesota tops Maxey’s 38 against Charlotte, although Maxey has scored at least 25 in eight of ten appearances.

Curry remains devastating when defenses concede even brief shooting windows. Maxey depends more heavily on rapid acceleration, attacks through gaps and movement into the paint. Their stylistic contrast complements BitcoinVersus.Tech’s ranking of the NBA’s top 25 players, which also weighs defense, workload and availability.
Playmaking — Maxey leads 5.3 to 4.6 assists
Maxey’s 53 assists over ten games beat Curry’s 37 across eight on a per-game basis, 5.3 to approximately 4.6. His 11-assist performance against Chicago on November 2 demonstrates the ceiling of his drive-and-kick creation. The difference is partly structural: the two offenses divide initiation responsibilities among their personnel differently.

Maxey’s extended workload is another strength: his season average is approximately 36.6 minutes per game, compared with roughly 29.6 for Curry. Minutes reflect coaching decisions, substitutions and game context rather than talent alone. Recent work on AI-assisted basketball shot tracking shows how performance measurement increasingly extends beyond familiar box-score fields.
Three-point shooting — Curry 4.8, Maxey 2.5 made per game
Curry has made 38 threes in eight games, or 4.75 per appearance, against Maxey’s 25 in ten, or 2.5. Curry’s per-game output is therefore 90% higher. He connected on eight threes against the Lakers on October 30, while Maxey’s game high across the sample is four. The difference is volume, not automatically shooting accuracy: percentages require made and attempted shots together.

Recent film — two high-scoring performances
Maxey’s 38 points helped Philadelphia beat Charlotte 109–104 on October 31, according to the official 76ers box score. Curry scored 41 against Orlando on November 7, including decisive overtime baskets, as detailed in the Warriors’ game recap. Neither highlight alone determines season-long superiority.

Why the SmartChart methods differ
The SmartChart 40-style atlas guides each representation. Zero-baseline vertical columns make average differences legible; chronological lines show how production changed across successive player appearances; individual-game dots expose outliers and consistency. The three methods reuse identical observed data and provide complementary views, not three independent samples. Different appearance numbers cannot be interpreted as head-to-head matchups.
The statistical approach expands on BitcoinVersus.Tech’s Wembanyama–Dončić by-the-numbers study. Work on NBA smart-ball sensing provides further context for future tracking metrics.
Verdict
Curry leads the scoring and three-point comparison; Maxey leads in assists and season-minute responsibility. Curry’s offensive efficiency and long-range threat are advantages, whereas Maxey’s age, speed and capacity to initiate possessions suggest an emerging primary-guard profile. Full player value also requires turnovers, shot efficiency, defense, lineup effects and a much larger sample. No definitive overall winner can be declared after eight or ten games.
Editor’s Note
All figures cover NBA regular-season appearances through November 7, 2026. Maxey has ten and Curry eight. Percentages comparing averages use unrounded denominators; displayed per-game numbers are rounded to one decimal. Scouting evaluations are editorial judgments, not official NBA player rankings or award projections.
